Matt Maier at Kilimanjaro!
Date(s): January, February 2006
Description: Matt has returned home safe and sound. The picture shows Matt at the top of Kilimanjaro with his porter. More pictures will eventually be made available.

January 18h 2006 :

News from the Killimanjaro, Matt has reached his goal of climbing to the summit and has already safely returned to the bottom. Pictures are coming!

January 16th 2006 :

We are waiting news from Matt and his friend Dan Marteinson who, if all went well, reached the top of Kilimanjaro overnight. The final part of the climb, from Kibo hut at 15,500 ft. to the summit, is generally undertaken at night, because the scree (broken rock that appear at the bottom of mountain cliffs) is frozen together, making the climb significantly easier.

December 2005 :

Matt Maier, the founder of Canada Panel Instruments, which in 2000 became Everest Automation, will be attempting to reach the top of Kilimanjaro in January 2006. After his adventures at Everest (the mountain!) in 1999, Matt has decided to take on this new challenge and in the process, shame much younger people who would never dare such a feat!

We will be updating his progress throughout this trek and invite you to visit our site and share in his experience.

Everest and ABB to supply complete CEM system to "Ciment St. Laurent" in Joliette
Date(s): June 2003
Description: Everest and ABB have been awarded a contract to supply the emissions monitoring systems to Ciment St. Laurent in Joliette, Quebec. The four stacks will each be completely fitted with an ABB ACFNT (FTIR) CEMS and LAND opacity/dust monitor. The scope of the project was originated by Holcim Ltd. to upgrade the system with state-of-the-art equipment.

One of the challenges faced by Ciment St. Laurent was the accurate measurement of HCl (Hydrochloric Acid), due primarily from the incineration of used tires.

HCl has a high solubility in water, and coupled with a high dew point temperature, this gas is often “lost” in the sample cooler of conventional extractive systems. The common alternative is measuring the sample on a hot and wet basis, which analyzers are not commonly designed for, and multiple photometers are typically required.

The solution; ABB's ACFNT FTIR (Fourrier Transformer Infrared) system.

The ACFNT performs a continuous analysis of the more common gas constituents such as CO, NOx and SO2, but can also measure HCl and ammonia all within the same analyzer (and system)!

ABB has developed a simple package which incorporates the world-renown Bomem FTIR of Quebec City and years of experience from ABB Germany, in the emissions monitoring field.

In addition to ABB's supply of gas analysis systems, Everest is also providing the dust monitors, integration as well as installation and project management.
